Sportsmanship Medallion:

The CYC Sportsmanship Medallion debuted in the Summer of 2019. Medallions are used at all CYC playoff games, as well as other games throughout the 5 CYC districts. The coin is given to the Official and used at the beginning of the game for the coin-flip. The Official has the opportunity to explain the purpose of the coin, and why Sportsmanship is important in the CYC.

Then at the end of the game, the Official awards the coin to a player on either team that most exemplified the CYC Core Values of Faith, Sportsmanship, and Service. This is a great way to continually highlight the good behavior that we see happening throughout CYC all the time, and make it a memorable experience for the players, teams, and families.

Random Acts of Sportsmanship:

For many years, the CYC has asked parents, coaches, volunteers and officials to be on the lookout for “Random Acts of Sportsmanship” that a CYC athlete does, looking for no recognition for themselves. This is a great opportunity to let them know that it did not go unnnoticed, and we appreciate the way that they treat others with respect.

If you see that happen, you can send an e-mail to RAS@cycstl.net with a good explanation of what happened. The CYC office will create a Certificate and mail it to the athlete along with a Gift Card to Dick’s Sporting Goods. They will also be invited to attend our CYC Sports Banquet that is held in October each year to be recognized.

Code of Conduct

Below are two Code of Conduct forms to use at the Parish level for parents and coaches. The enforcement of the Code of Conduct is left up to the Parishes and Districts.

The spirit of these documents is meant to be positive. We want to create a positive atmosphere for all of our athletes, officials, volunteers, and parents. 95% of CYC Coaches and Parents are doing it the “right way,” but these are important to hold everyone accountable. The commitment to faith and sportsmanship is what makes CYC unique, which is why believe these are important.

Any Parish is able to download these forms to pass out to parents and coaches, or build them into the registration process at the beginning of the season. Our hope is that you would spend time thinking through each document and discussing at the Parish level, instead of having each person “check the box” in the same way that you might accept the Terms and Conditions on a new iPhone.
